Getting Here

How will you start your Beachy Head Experience? We may be at the top of Britain's highest chalk sea cliff (162 metres / 531 feet) above sea level, but there are many easy ways to get here.

Eastbourne Sightseeing Bus

By Bus

The Coaster 13X bus stops right outside the visitor centre, heading from both Eastbourne and Brighton. In summer it runs hourly on Saturdays, every 20 minutes on Sundays and every 2 hours on weekdays. During winter it runs hourly only on Sundays.
From 29th March, the Eastbourne Sightseeing open top bus runs every half an hour, 7 days a week, and also stops right outside the visitor centre on its way from Eastbourne seafront towards Birling Gap and East Dean. You can hop on and off all day.

The South Downs Way national trail goes right past our door. The 100 mile national trail winds its way from Winchester in Hampshire to Eastbourne. You can pick up the footpath from Holywell at the western end of Eastbourne Seafront and walk straight up the hill to the top of Beachy Head.

Cycling

The South Downs Way is footpath only over Beachy Head, but the road is popular with cyclists. We provide a cycle rack and free water at the front of the centre. There's a tool station and bike pump available at Cadence Clubhouse nearby.

By Car

You will find us on the Beachy Head Road, right next to The Beachy Head Pub. Follow brown tourist signs for Beachy Head and Countryside Centre from the A259 or Eastbourne Seafront. There is ample parking in any of the Beachy Head Car Parks operated by Eastbourne Borough Council. The main Beachy Head Car Park is nearest. Parking charges start at £1.50 for 1 hour to £6.30 for all day.

Why charge?

The old Beachy Head Story was free, why do we charge?
Eastbourne Borough Council used to run the old Beachy Head Story. It is now run by Animazing, a local Community Interest Company. We have to pay rent, electricity, etc., and our lovely staff. We do not aim to make a profit and do not have any shareholders. Any surplus will be invested in enhancing the experience, community projects, and supporting the local environment.
